Rise Up Reno is a coalition-based community prevention operating system with 20 years of experience using a public health approach to prevent youth substance use by providing mentoring services, youth leadership opportunities, and suicide prevention resources.

Rise Up Reno Targets

Ultimately, the beneficiaries of Rise Up Reno are youth of any age in the community. Rise Up Reno helps decision-makers in the community select & implement tested, effective prevention policies and programs to address the most pressing risks facing their youth. Rise Up Reno guides the community coalition through an assessment and prioritization process that identifies the risk and protective factors most in need of attention and links those priorities to prevention programs that are proven to work in addressing them.

Program Content

Rise Up Reno activities are planned and carried out by a prevention coalition of community stakeholders who work together to promote positive youth outcomes.

Within 4 years of coalition implementation Reno County experienced significant reductions in youth substance abuse and delinquency among students completing the eighth grade.

Furthermore, youth in the community were less likely to begin using drugs and to engage in delinquent behaviors for the first time by the eighth grade:
